* Mississippi: Consistently ranks high in the value of aquaculture products sold, with a significant focus on catfish production. In 2017, Mississippi’s aquaculture sales were valued at $230.7 million, with catfish accounting for $219.7 million.
* Washington: A leader in shellfish production, contributing significantly to the West’s $475 million in annual aquaculture sales.
* Louisiana: Has a large number of aquaculture farms and significant sales in crustaceans (like crawfish) and mollusks. In 2018, Louisiana had 522 aquaculture farms with total sales of $135.7 million.
* Florida: While having a high number of aquaculture farms, it ranked ninth in the value of aquaculture product sales in 2018, with $71.6 million. However, Florida is a significant producer of clams, ranking second in the nation in 2023 with $32.044 million in sales.
* Alabama: Also a strong aquaculture state with $95.199 million in sales in 2018, focusing on freshwater fish.
Considering the volume of production, Mississippi, with its large catfish industry, is also a major player.
