Vitel Wireless, Nigeria’s first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), has announced that it has successfully completed interconnectivity with all major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Nigeria. This is a historic milestone, as it’s the first time an MVNO in Nigeria has achieved this feat.
This means that Vitel Wireless subscribers can now seamlessly make and receive calls from users on all the major Nigerian networks, including MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom (Glo), and 9mobile Nigeria.
This achievement is a result of collaboration between Vitel Wireless, Wireless Technology Labs (WTL), Interconnect Clearinghouse Nigeria (ICN), and technical teams from the four major network providers.
Vitel Wireless has also made several other “firsts” in the Nigerian telecommunications sector, including being the first MVNO to:
* Receive a dedicated number series (0712) from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
* Be issued a national numbering plan and international routing codes.
* Launch Africa’s first location awareness network.
* Unveil a strategic nationwide rollout plan.
This development marks a significant step forward for the MVNO space in Nigeria and is expected to bring more competition and innovation to the country’s telecommunications market.
