The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) has announced that it is now accepting applications for registration as direct and general clearing members for the competitive electricity market (CEM).
The CSE will act as the clearing house for the CEM, a role it will fulfill under a contract with the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO). In this capacity, the CSE is responsible for:
    * Verifying adequacy: Assessing the organizational and professional suitability of clearing members.
    * System integration: Overseeing their integration with the ECMS, the CSE system for clearing house operations.
    * Risk management: Monitoring the payment of required collateral to manage transaction risks.
The CSE is encouraging interested parties to submit their applications to become clearing members. They have also published technical procedures for acquiring clearing member status, which include details on professional adequacy and relevant application forms, all available on their website.
It’s crucial for clearing members to be activated within the timelines set by the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA). CERA has set September 15, 2025, as the start of operations for the competitive electricity market, with the first trading day on October 1, 2025. Therefore, timely submission of applications to the CSE is essential.
