MarketAxess Holdings Inc. recently acquired a majority stake in RFQ-hub Holdings LLC and now holds approximately a 90% controlling stake in the platform. This acquisition was completed on May 12, 2025.
RFQ-hub is a global request-for-quote (RFQ) platform that facilitates trading in various asset classes, including:
* ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds)
* Derivatives (both listed and over-the-counter – OTC)
* Structured products
The platform supports both listed and OTC trades across equities and fixed income.
The remaining ownership (around 10%) of RFQ-hub will be retained by the original consortium members, which include:
* Virtu Financial, Inc.
* BlackRock, Inc.
* Citadel Securities
* Flow Traders
* Jane Street Capital
These firms will continue to collaborate with MarketAxess under the new ownership structure.
Strategic Implications for MarketAxess:
* Strengthened Position: The acquisition significantly strengthens MarketAxess’s presence and capabilities in the ETF and derivatives space by integrating RFQ-hub’s technology and network.
* Broadened Multi-Asset Capabilities: It allows MarketAxess to offer a wider range of solutions to clients looking to manage credit risk and bond liquidity through ETF and derivative instruments.
* Growth Opportunities: The deal unlocks growth potential by leveraging RFQ-hub’s existing global presence and partnerships.
* Increased Influence: Gaining majority control provides MarketAxess with more direct influence over RFQ-hub’s operations and potential revenue streams.
* Diversification Strategy: This move aligns with MarketAxess’s long-term strategy to diversify its offerings beyond its core fixed-income trading platform.
RFQ-hub has been operating since 2008, and in May 2022, Virtu Financial announced the formation of the consortium, RFQ-hub Holdings LLC, to foster the platform’s growth. MarketAxess was a founding member of this consortium before acquiring the majority stake.Video courtesy of First Bank of Nigeria
